MUTEK.JP enters a new phase, bringing 20+ artists together for four days at Tokyo's new venue, MoN Takanawa

MUTEK Japan announces the 11th edition of MUTEK.JP, the international festival of electronic music and digital creativity, taking place over four days from November 20–23, 2026, at MoN Takanawa: The Museum of Narratives, the new cultural hub located within TAKANAWA GATEWAY CITY in Tokyo. The festival will be co-presented with East Japan Railway Company (JR East), marking a new phase in MUTEK.JP’s evolution. As part of this announcement, a fourth day has been added to the festival (an extra treat for Blind Passeport buyers!)

Entering its 11th year, MUTEK.JP continues its exploration of the possibilities of audiovisual expression that expand consciousness through the convergence of digital creativity, contemporary arts, and technology. This year's program presents an outstanding selection of groundbreaking audiovisual performances, electronic music, digital art, and new media art by internationally acclaimed artists from Japan and around the world.

This year's edition unfolds around the idea of a new cycle. As MUTEK.JP enters its second decade, a new chapter begins, bringing together a new creative environment, new perspectives, and new possibilities for audiovisual expression.

The festival lineup features a range of leading audiovisual work: a 3D/AV Live set from UK audiovisual artist Max Cooper showcasing his new album; a specially configured experimental AV set from Japanese band mouse on the keys, marking their 20th anniversary; a new piece from pioneering audiovisual artist Ryoichi Kurokawa; Chilling Bambino, a project from Polish musician Hania Rani; ＋1＋1＋1＋, a live dance installation by Daito Manabe × ELEVENPLAY; and Film Scores for No One, a new project from legendary Canadian music icon Patrick Watson.

Also on the bill are Robert Lippok & Lucas Gutierrez, presenting a Live AV back to back, and Grand River, presenting the Japan premiere of her latest work, along with NEUROSCAN (Canblaster + Neurotypique), who make their Japan debut, plus tamanaramen, a next-generation Japanese AV unit, among others to be announced. Together, these artists deliver performances that transcend boundaries, where image, music, physical expression, and technology converge.

On the festival’s final day, Monday, November 23 — the date of Niiname-sai, Japan’s ancient harvest festival — a special collaborative audiovisual program celebrating the occasion will be presented. Further details will be announced soon.

LINE UP

Conference, Workshops and Art Exhibitions

During the daytime throughout the festival, MUTEK.JP Pro Conference will bring together artists, researchers, creative technologists, and industry leaders for talks, panel discussions, and workshops exploring the future of digital creativity and emerging technologies.

The festival will also present ETERNAL Art Space, a concurrent exhibition showcasing digital and media art. Further details on the conference sessions, the exhibition, and public programs will be announced in mid-October 2026.

Evolving the Audience Experience

Each day's program will offer both standing and seated formats, introducing a new way to experience MUTEK.JP. Beyond music performances, the festival invites audiences to engage with audiovisual works where image, sound, and spatial design converge, further evolving MUTEK.JP as a festival with a strong focus on artistic expression.

MUTEK.JP 2026 — 11th Edition will be presented as an official partner program of ARTE TOKYO (Tokyo International Festival of Culture and Arts).
