DAY 3 | Sunday, November 22
Music, dance, image, language, and AI. DAY 3 brings together six acts that incorporate technology through the body and the voice, reshaping the form of live performance itself. From cinematic sound to dance and generative practices, each explores a distinct way of approaching the contemporary stage.
A/Visions 3: Composing Perception
At Box1000, two performances place music and contemporary movements at the heart of the program. One unfolds through a cinematic sound world shaped by modular synthesizers; the other brings together bodies, movement, moving images, light, and shifting frames with exacting precision.
Both performances reveal different ways the body can shape, and be shaped, by the audiovisual experience. Experience them firsthand:
Film Scores for No One - a Patrick Watson project CA/QC
Known for bridging mainstream and avant-garde audiences, renowned Canadian singer-songwriter, composer, and multi-instrumentalist Patrick Watson presents his latest project, drawing on instrumental material developed over the past five years. Built primarily around modular synthesizers, expect neoclassical textures and electronic emotion, conjuring a cinematic universe of soundtracks for films that exist only in the imagination.
Don’t miss this Japan premiere.
Daito Manabe x ELEVENPLAY JP
This collaboration brings together a leading Japanese artist, programmer, and composer, a frequent performer at MUTEK.JP with a global presence who explores the emergence of life, intelligence, and society through music, visuals, and programming, and a cutting-edge dance company well known for fusing technology with physical expression, marking their first appearance at the festival in seven years.
The dance installation +1+1+1+ explores themes of time and structure by layering classical musical structures and repetitive contemporary rhythms with the dancers' bodies, visuals, light, and shifting frames. Synchronization and displacement reconfigure the boundaries between body and technology, music and dance.
Witness its Tokyo premiere at MUTEK.JP 2026.
Play 3: New Gestures, New Performances
Whispered voices, repetitive beats, dance and breath meet a process in which AI transforms text, voice, and light into images in real time. Box300 will feature body-driven performances and a work that generates worlds from language and data. Four acts from Asia approach live performance from contrasting perspectives: the body and AI.
Dimension Plus TW
An interdisciplinary new media art collective exploring the intersection of technology, cultural storytelling, and visual creation. In MOVING PLUS: The World as Prompt, acclaimed Taiwanese novelist Yi-Chin LO and collage artist Raintree 1969 collaborate with AI to transform text, voice, and light into visuals in real time. As these elements converge, a multidimensional world unfolds, shaped by the prompts that guide its emergence.
Witness this world taking shape in real time, in the project's Japan premiere.
Azikazin Magic World + tsuchifumazu KR+JP
This five-member media-mix creative collective from South Korea builds the world of Tra→Kids! across music, video, animation, and games. Their debut album, Memory Overdrive, fuses drum and bass, breakbeats, and a wide spectrum of club sounds. At MUTEK.JP, Lionclad’s finger drumming and Moogia’s live vocals meet real-time visuals by VJ collective tsuchifumazu, bringing the album’s universe to life on stage.
Step into Memory Overdrive as it unfolds into an immersive audiovisual live experience.
tamanaramen JP/UK
A sister audiovisual duo based between Tokyo and London, tamanaramen weave whispered vocals, abstract sound, and visual expression into immersive sonic worlds. DANCE IS BREATHING explores dance, breath, and the memory of an ever-changing body through ambient, IDM, and techno, fluid imagery, and hypnotic rhythms.
Disrupting our perception of time and bodily awareness, the performance creates a space where personal memories dissolve into collective ecstasy.
Let the rhythms shift your sense of time and reconnect you with your body.
Eq (E.O.U + vq) + JACKSON kaki JP
A collaborative session bringing together E.O.U’s playful blend of live performance and DJing with vq’s inventive use of multiple smartphones as musical instruments. Together, they explore an expanded space of sonic freedom through organic textures, improvisation, and play.
Joining them as VJ, multimedia artist JACKSON kaki works across 3DCG, video, and performance, exploring the relationship between body and technology.
Where sound becomes movement and visuals become instruments.
From cinematic sound worlds shaped by modular synthesizers to dance at the intersection of body and technology, AI-driven real-time visuals, gaming culture fueled by drum & bass, performances exploring breath and rhythm, and improvisation with smartphones and moving images, Day 3 brings together six distinctive live works, each with its own artistic language and approach.
