Johanna Elina Sulkunen (Voc-electronics)

Johanna Elina Sulkunen is a Finnish composer, vocalist, and sound artist based in Copenhagen. Working at the intersection of experimental music, electronics, improvisation, and contemporary vocal practice, she approaches the voice not only as an instrument but as a living system of resonance, memory, and human connection. Her work transforms the voice into immersive encounters where technology, ecology, field-recordings, and embodied experience converge. Through her acclaimed project SONORITY, unfolding across the album trilogy KOAN (2018), TERRA (2021), and COEXISTENCE (2024). From solo performances to larger ensemble works, she is refusing stylistic boundaries in favor of an intensely personal artistic language. Recognised as one of the leading voices in Scandinavian experimental Sulkunen has received international acclaim.

TERRA was named one of A Closer Listen's Top 10 Experimental Albums of 2021 and was nominated for a Danish Music Award. She has released five solo albums and is a founding member of the award-winning vocal ensemble IKI, whose debut album received the Danish Music Award for Jazz Vocal Album of the Year. In 2024 she performed alongside Blixa Bargeld in Hotel Pro Forma's Flammenwerfer, with music by Bargeld and Nils Frahm, and in 2025 she was selected as a Sonic Diplomacy Artist by the Royal Danish Embassy in Japan. She collaborates internationally and has toured extensively in Europe and Japan.

Tapani Toivanen (Visuals)

Tapani Toivanen (FI/DK) is a multidisciplinary artist based in Copenhagen, working with projection and media art, real-time graphics, GPU programming, and music. As a musician and an engineer, he develops his own real-time visual systems from the ground up: audioreactive environments driven by simulation models, where sound generates, transforms, and reorganises digital representations of the natural world. Since 2018, Toivanen has shaped the visual language of SONORITY. Together with Sulkunen, he co-founded TILA in 2021, an independent Copenhagen platform for experimental music, sound art, and interdisciplinary collaboration. His works have been presented throughout Europe, Korea, Japan, and the United States.

Johanna Elina Sulkunen & Tapani ToivanenSONORITY

An encounter between the embodied human voice, live electronics, and the visualisation of the digital afterimage of the natural world. Breath, vibration, resonance, and spoken language merge with live electronics. The voice becomes electric, creating immersive and intimate musical moments that awaken the image and set the digital landscape into motion. Sulkunen explores perception, ecology, and belonging through an expanded vocal practice.

Volumetric recordings gathered across scales from the microscopic to the monumental, form a shifting visual terrain. A transformative second world unfolds, where breath, resonance, and voice move freely, traversing auditive and spatial scales from particle to body to society.
