MUTEK.JP 2025 Opening Night: A/Visions
Thursday, November 20
The 10th anniversary of MUTEK.JP opens with a night designed to astonish. A/Visions, the festival’s flagship program, sets the stage for four days of immersive discovery — where experimental sound research, cutting-edge digital art, and live performance collide.
This year’s edition unfolds through water, a special trio reunion, and boundary-pushing audiovisual narratives. Prepare for an evening that will leave you transformed!
Martin Messier QC/CA — 1 Drop 1000 Years
Returning to Tokyo for his third appearance since the very first MUTEK.JP, Montreal’s Martin Messier unveils a mesmerizing new work. 1 Drop 1000 Years channels sound, light, and water into a visceral exploration of ocean currents and the urgent realities of climate change. Ripples expand into an overwhelming wave of sensation: a performance that is as meditative as it is monumental.

Noémi Büchi CH — Does It Still Matter
Making her Asia premiere, Zurich-based composer and sound artist Noémi Büchi invites you into a realm where boundaries dissolve.
With meticulous sound design and genre-defying structures, Does It Still Matter pairs raw intensity with cinematic visuals, pushing listeners into a new sensory space where fragility and power collide.
This is not just a concert, it’s an initiation into a new way of hearing. Sense a little preview in this video:

Eiko Ishibashi, Jim O’Rourke & Joe Talia JP+US/JP+AU
A reunion not to miss: acclaimed Japanese composer Eiko Ishibashi, Grammy-winning American artist Jim O’Rourke, and Australian percussionist and electronic explorer Joe Talia converge for a singular improvisational performance.
Electroacoustic textures, restless drums, and spontaneous interplay weave a soundscape both intimate and expansive. A living proof that true wonder lies in the unknown.

A/Visions' Opening Night is more than a concert: it’s a promise of discovery, a showcase of artists reshaping the future of sound and image. Step inside, and let MUTEK.JP 10 transform your senses.
