LIVE A/V: 7:00 pm_5:00 am

Trained in classical and Latin percussion as well as electroacoustic composition, Guillaume Coutu Dumont has been a central figure in Montréal’s electronic scene since the early 2000s. Emerging with projects like Chic Miniature, EGG, and LUCI, his solo alias Guillaume & The Coutu Dumonts fused house, jazz, gospel, and afrobeat, leading to over a decade of global touring across more than 45 countries. Back in Montréal since 2016, he revived Flabbergast with Vincent Lemieux, launched the live trio Auflassen (with Robbie Kuster and Nicolas Boucher), and released new material as Vieux Renard. His recent work explores a nostalgic, analog-infused ambient style, rich in hypnotic repetition and melodic warmth. In 2020, he debuted Les Empires, an hour-long audiovisual piece inspired by science fiction and mythology. Balancing instinctive rhythm with introspective textures, Coutu Dumont continues to craft music that resonates both physically and emotionally.

Line Katcho is a Montréal-based composer and audiovisual artist whose immersive works explore sound and image as forces of motion, tension and transformation. Blending abstraction with narrative elements, her practice spans live performance, film, VR and architectural projection. Her work has been presented at Ars Electronica, Sónar+D, MUTEK (Argentina, Canada, Japan, Mexico, Spain, UAE), and Scopitone, and was officially selected by prestigious festivals such as the Annecy International Animation Film Festival (France). A recipient of the JTTP 2014 First Prize and the MA/IN 2016 Award of Distinction, she has also completed residencies with the Society for Arts and Technology and Espace IM(media). With a background in electroacoustic composition, she embraces hybrid forms and sensory immersion, creating intense, expressive works that resonate physically and emotionally. She also collaborates across disciplines, including contemporary dance and video game sound design.

Guillaume Coutu Dumont & Line Katcho — Les Empires

Inspired by Krautrock veterans Manuel Göttsching and Tangerine Dream and more recently by artists like Alessandro Cortini or Caterina Barbieri, Guillaume Coutu Dumont composes retro-futuristic pieces full of warmth and imperfections, typical of the ambient synthetic sounds of another era.

Soft percussion and repetitive melodies create a hypnotic and nostalgic atmosphere reminiscent of an age that may never have existed. Les Empires, is a synth heavy piece inspired by science fiction and mythology presented at MUTEK Montreal, for the first time, with uniquely tailored visuals by artist Line Katcho.

In a surreal odyssey, Katcho depicts the cyclical nature of power, decay, and rebirth through the lens of imaginary empires that never existed. Merging abstract visuals, symbolism and fractured narrative threads, she conjures a dreamlike tapestry where towering monoliths dissolve into sand and rulers morph into their own monuments. A shifting mirage of power structures rising and crumbling in eternal loops, echoing forgotten pasts and fabricated futures. Time bends, history blurs, and the viewer is left navigating the psychological remains of ambition and entropy.
