Play spotlights experimental audiovisual live performances exploring new relationships between sound, image and technology. Its opening night brings together four acts from Japan and abroad.

A duo of musician Robert Lippok, best known as a former member of To Rococo Rot, and visual artist Lucas Gutierrez present AVB2BVA, a back-to-back performance built from music and real-time visuals. As their sound and image intersect live, they explore the fluidity of time, generating improvised, unpredictable shifts throughout the set.

Grand River is the solo project of Aimée Portioli, a Berlin-based Dutch-Italian composer. The performance centres on her new album Temporary, due out in fall 2026, an electro-acoustic sound built from the interplay of guitar and synthesiser. Light design by Andrea Familari joins the music, shaping a space where sound and light intertwine.

Seulement, the solo project of Montreal-based electronic musician and audiovisual artist Mathieu Arsenault, presents Bricolage Architecture. Combining stop-motion animation with live modular synthesis, the AV performance focuses on the imperfections digital technology cannot capture, and on the body's singular presence.

From Japan, Masayuki Azegami and Seiichi Sega present a 3D audiovisual live show. Every audience member receives 3D glasses for a performance combining stereoscopic visuals with sound that responds to them in real time. Within a meticulously constructed interplay of sound and image, the piece opens up 'ma' and negative space, offering an immersive experience of observing phenomena as they unfold.
