Black Boboi + YanneekJP + CA/QC
These three musicians, Utena Kobayashi, Julia Shorteed, and ermhoi, came together to create the music community label "BINDIVIDUAL." In June 2018, this collaboration led to the formation of Black Boboi. They marked their debut with the release of their first mini-album, "Agate," in January 2019, which eventually earned them a performance slot at FUJIROCK FESTIVAL '19. In November 2020, they followed up with the release of their first full-length album, "SILK."
The first album, "Agate," was a creation that seemed to encapsulate the musical experiences of these three talented individuals within a warm cocoon. On the other hand, their second album, "SILK," initially carried the imagery of bursting forth from that cocoon. However, the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic led to a unique and introspective creative process, conducted remotely from their respective homes. This experience expanded their inner worlds and resulted in a deeply introspective piece of work. Alongside arrangements of these albums, they will perform new songs that have emerged during their ongoing dialogue with the world, offering a fresh perspective on their music.
Yanneek is a Montréal-based artistic director, graphic and motion designer and VJ, also an event organizer and DJ (Yann). His visuals tap into the beat of any music they accompany, vibrating and oscillating until their expanding forms almost jump off the screen or draw us right into it – from wavering deep space tunnels to seemingly infinite lines of sight.
Over the past 20 years, Yanneek has added his creative style to numerous events and projects in Montréal and internationally, creating hypnotic and powerful compositions with Tech Safari Productions and co-founding immersive design studio to create high energy, illuminating multimedia installations and live visuals. His work transforms artistic performances into uniquely engaging experiences using cutting edge graphics tech, whether in Cirque du Soleil shows, events and installations for multimedia company Moment Factory, Silent Partners Studio, LUZ, Float-4, or local music events such the Montréal International Jazz Festival, Igloofest, Montréal en Lumières, Eclipse Festival and MUTEK.
