Open Reel EnsembleJP
Open Reel Ensemble is a music group that uses reel-to-reel tape recorders as instruments. They are possessed by their own delusional vision of a “Magnetikpunk world,” where magnetic technology has evolved far beyond reality, and treat these machines as “magnetic folk instruments.”
Their unique style and sound earned acclaim, leading to a debut album on a label led by Ryuichi Sakamoto. They also created music for ISSEY MIYAKE’s Paris Collection for four seasons.
The group has performed at international festivals such as Sónar, Ars Electronica, and MUTEK Montréal. Constantly reimagining and reshaping these machines, they continue to explore their untapped potential.
