During live performance Akiko Kiyama explores her most personal and free self through using a wide-range of hardware such as modular synths for the audience o experience a mysterious sort of music on the flip side of categorization. In 2018, the first album under the name Aalko, "No Man Is An Island," was released on Kebko Music. Her music was met with much acclaim during her performance at MUTEK in Montreal. That same year, she performed together with Richie Hawtin and Alva Noto at Toyosu PIT, where her underlying tone of distorted rhythms and heavy bass lines excited the audience with its unique kind of groove.
