Hiroaki UmedaJP
"
Japanese multidisciplinary artist and choreographer Hiroaki Umeda creates performances that embody new technology and movement, juxtaposing the physicality of dance with digital abstractions, reactive minimal soundscapes and reality-disrupting light design and motion mapped projections. For more than a decade he has been exploring the intersections between the corporeal, optical, sensorial and spatiotemporal in his choreographies and in his installation works. He earned an Honorary Mention at Prix Ars Electronica in 2010 for his blending of visual technology with the physical in his practice.
At MUTEK 2015 he presents two captivating dance performances with experimental techno aesthetics: Holistic Strata, in which his body, projections and sound share the same pixel-like value on stage, as his frame merges with the screen reflecting Umeda’s quest for harmony; and Split Flow, a study in speed and stillness exploring more austere but increasingly dynamic interventions and interactions between light and movement."
