Yoichiro Sakai^JP

Yoichiro Sakai is the Director of the Shibuya Development Project at Tokyu Corporation. After majoring in urban planning at university, he joined Tokyu in 1990 with the aspiration of working in urban development. Over the last 30 years, he has been involved as an urban development planner in a series of development tasks, including project planning from concept development, feasibility studies, design and construction-related consultations, administrative and local consultations, and the establishment of operational management systems, thus playing a vital role in the launch of many commercial facilities, offices, residences, hotels, etc. In the first stage, he was mainly in charge of the development of station buildings. Ebenezer Howard's concept of the garden city had a particularly strong influence on Sakai at the time of the Tokyu Square project for Den-en-chofu Station.

He was also in charge of COREDO Nihonbashi, the Tokyu Capitol Tower, and SHIBUYA CAST in downtown Tokyo. Later, he worked mainly in Vietnam as a member of the International Division after being posted to Ho Chi Minh City for around seven years, during which he was involved in large-scale urban development projects in Vietnam as the country experienced rapid economic growth. He is currently working to ensure that Shibuya continues to be relevant over the next 100 years by keeping an eye on social transformations as he shapes the urban space into the world's Shibuya.
