Takashi Ikegami (he/him) is a professor in the Department of General Systems Sciences, Graduate School of Arts and Sciences at the University of Tokyo. He has a PhD in physics. His research focuses on complex systems and artificial life—a field that aims to build possible forms of life systems using computer simulations, chemical experiments and robots. In 2018, he organized an international conference on ALIFE in Tokyo. He is also the founder of the company Alternative Machine. Some of these activities were published in 2007 by Seido Shobo in Life appears in motion, and in Between Man and Machine by Kodansha in 2016. He has also been involved in media art activities since 2005: Filmachine with Keiichiro Shibuya and YCAM in 2006, Mind Time Machine with YCAM in 2010, Long Goodbye with Kenshu Sinitsubo in 2017, and many others.
